Plate mass per m² is 7.85·t, where t is the thickness in mm; sheet mass is for the 1 500×6 000 mm format.
Theoretical weight at steel density 7.85 g/cm³. Actual batch weight is by scale and mill certificate.
09G2S is a low-alloy structural steel of increased strength to GOST 19281-2014: carbon up to 0.12 %, manganese 1.3–1.7 %, silicon 0.5–0.8 % to GOST 19281. The plate is hot-rolled to the dimensions of GOST 19903-2015: thin sheet from coil cut to length, heavy plate on reversing mills from a slab. Manganese and silicon give a strength above that of St3 while weldability is retained, so 09G2S is used where the weight of a structure has to be reduced or service in frost has to be ensured.
The strength class to GOST 19281 depends on thickness and is stated in the certificate. The steel category sets the impact test conditions: category 12 — at −40 °C, category 15 — at −70 °C; for structures in Uzbekistan category 12 is usually sufficient, cryogenic and northern equipment calls for 15. The Chinese equivalent is Q355B to GB/T 1591-2018 (Q345B before 2018) with a yield strength of 355 MPa minimum and an impact test at +20 °C; the European one is S355JR, S355J2 to EN 10025-2, the American one A572 Grade 50. These are the nearest equivalents by strength, not identity: if the project specifies a 09G2S category for impact toughness, we agree with the mill rolling and testing to GOST and a corresponding entry in the certificate.
At the mill before shipment the bureau's inspector measures thickness with a micrometer at several points of the sample sheets and checks it against the tolerance of the standard, checks width, length and flatness, and examines the surface for laminations, laps and delamination along the cut edge. The mill test certificate (MTC) is checked against the tag and marking by heat number; in the composition the manganese and silicon content is checked against the limits of GOST 19281, in the mechanical properties — yield strength, tensile strength, elongation and impact toughness at the temperature set by the category. The report with photographs is handed to you before shipment.
Bundles on timber bearers, strapped with steel band, every sheet marked with paint: grade, heat, thickness; mill tag with batch number and category.
Equivalents are the nearest, not identical: the exact grade and standard are written into the contract.
| GOST | GB (China) | ASTM | EN | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| St3sp / St3ps | GB (China)Q235B | ASTMA36 | ENS235JR | NoteNearest equivalents. Q235B and S235JR specify impact toughness at +20 °C, GOST 14637 by category; A36 has a higher yield strength, 250 MPa. |
| 09G2S | GB (China)Q355B (Q345B before 2018) | ASTMA572 Grade 50 | ENS355JR / S355J2 | NoteNearest equivalents by strength. The 09G2S category for impact toughness at −40 or −70 °C is specified separately; Q355B is tested at +20 °C. |
| 08ps | GB (China)DC01 | ASTMA1008 CS Type B | ENDC01 | NoteSPCC to JIS G3141 is the same class of general-purpose cold-rolled low-carbon steel. |
| 08ps to GOST 14918 | GB (China)DX51D+Z | ASTMA653 CS Type B | ENDX51D+Z | NoteThe DX51D+Z designation in GB/T 2518 matches EN 10346. Zinc coating weight (Z100–Z275) is specified separately from the grade. |
| GOST 34180 based on 08ps | GB (China)TDC51D+Z | ASTMA755 based on A653 | ENDX51D+Z to EN 10169 | NoteThe grade describes the steel substrate and the zinc. Type and thickness of the polymer layer, RAL colour and environment class are set by the specification. |
| 08Kh18N10 | GB (China)06Cr19Ni10 | ASTM304 | EN1.4301 (X5CrNi18-10) | Note12Kh18N10T is the equivalent of titanium-stabilised grade 321, not of 304. |
| 03Kh18N11 | GB (China)022Cr19Ni10 | ASTM304L | EN1.4307 (X2CrNi18-9) | NoteLow-carbon version of 304 (carbon up to 0.03 %) for welded structures without subsequent heat treatment. |
| 03Kh17N14M3 | GB (China)022Cr17Ni12Mo2 | ASTM316L | EN1.4404 (X2CrNiMo17-12-2) | NoteMolybdenum 2–3 % to ASTM A240. Mills in China certify to ASTM or EN; the GOST grade is entered in the MTC on request as an equivalent. |
Equivalents are the closest match, not identical: chemistry and tolerances differ between standards. The exact grade and standard are written into the contract.
